Picking up where they left off…

We are so proud of our Teen Leaders for the Good News Club. They faithfully make sure all is well each Saturday. They still operate 2 shifts encouraging more than 500 children each week.

Frances, the bus, is still going strong. There is no telling how many rides the children have taken on the bus that Frances Gregory from South Carolina made sure that we have.

As we get ready to go back to Zambia, the feedback we are receiving is encouraging.  The programs are still going on well and the staff continues to be encouraged – both to one another and to us here in USA.

 Outreach to Serenje.

Serenje is about 1100 kilometers (nearly 700 miles) to the north.

A good friend of ours in the rural area of Zimko, Glenda – who leads the women’s ministry, had spoken to us on a few occasions in the past to say that she believes that God is leading her to Serenje to help encourage and minister to the women there.  Once again, she came to our guys last month and asked if there would be any way CGWU could accompany her to Serenje. She said there is great darkness there…and sorrow at the loss of their lead missionary who had recently passed away – leaving so many churches, pastors and leaders without direction.

So, I agreed to let them take the journey.  Michael (our Michael), Gift,  Brighton, and Michael Pelete (a friend of the guys) started off in Michaels car (our land cruiser is getting too old for that kind of journey).  They sent money ahead for Glenda to meet them in Serenje.

They went five days sharing and listening to their pleas for more assistance to them.  There are over 150 churches  in that region lead by deacons and “not enough” pastors.  The team taught, prayed for the sick and lead (5) to Christ.

Those who pastor there are lacking much in the way of resources and training.  This represents a significant opportunity to serve.  We have the training and can get the resources…but, we will need more help.  This is one of those doors that we walked through and was amazed at the need for ministry that we found on the other side.  The churches are there…the people are there…the hunger is there…and so is the need for continued teaching, training, resources and encouragement.

This story will touch somebody…and hopefully, will lead to a somebody or somebodies or more to:

Come Go With Us to Serenje.

That is Paul Perry, a great friend. He and Steve graciously donated their facilities and loading equipment to help us get the container loaded and shipped to Africa.

We were gifted a 40 ft. shipping container and free shipping to Zambia

We filled the container with building supplies and other necessary items needed for the construction of the church and the replacement of our home base guesthouse.  So many items were donated and provided by so many of you – we can’t thank you enough. But we can try:

Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, Thank You, Thank you, ….a million times over…..and a special thanks to Brian Maydew for donating the container and providing the boat ticket…That guy is gonna have an awesome crown!!!

The container was filled to capacity and began a 4-6 month journey to Zambia.

All of our staff dreams of visiting America.  Would you consider sponsoring one or two of them…or “all” of them next year???

Love,

Ken & Karen Buckner
