IWU May Team 2024

Once again, the Indiana Wesleyan University School of Nursing sent a wonderful group of Junior & Senior level Nursing students to work with CGWU as we continue our ministry here in Zambia. They hit the ground running to share Jesus and some nursing skills with the residents of Mukalahani, the “Old People’s Home, The village of Kabuyu, and the Good News Club…and, they had a lot of fun too!

What a “bittersweet” BLESSING!

Serenje Project...Update!

Our fourth trip to Serenje was a success.  We met with the local Baptist Association and visited some of the area’s churches.  Many are without pastors and are very discouraged.  We discovered there are well over 100 active churches – all of whom are lacking in Bibles, lessons, leadership, and leadership training.  There is a true need here in Serenje for assistance, encouragement, training, and resources and it is ripe for us to bring in teams of Pastor trainers, discipleship trainers, and general love from fellow Christians who want to help bring the message of Jesus Christ back to the lost in this large desperate area.

This was the first of 2 exploratory trips that were scheduled and funded for 2023 to determine if – in fact – CGWU is being called to invest – long term – in this new location.  Serenje is a 2-days journey from our base on the southern border town of Livingstone and would be considered a major addition to our ministry focus in Zambia.  We covet your prayers in helping us to determine our future involvement in Serenje…and for further funding to justify this new “calling”.  Consider helping us minister to these brave people who have been struggling for nearly 25 years after being abandoned by an organization that folded following the death of the missionary assigned to this region.  They need loads of Bibles, literature, education, training, evangelism, and love.

Come Go With Us!

While in Serenje we got a special treat!

I encourage all of you to find a book on the life and times of David Livingstone.  He was a pioneer missionary from England who discovered much of the unknown in Africa in the 1800’s.  We are privileged to reside in the town of Livingstone which was named after him – and next to the falls that bears the name of his Queen – Victoria.  About 2 hours north of Serenje is the place where David Livingstone breathed his last breath while on his knees praying.  Michael and I were fortunate to visit his memorial – a very nice commemoration of this amazing missionary.

The plaque quotes Livingstone’s last words as he prayed himself into Heaven.

“Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy!”

SPOTLIGHT: Bertha Libindo

Bertha is our most senior employee.  She came to us in 2009 as a housekeeper.  Since then she has grown tremendously – evolving into a vital ministry partner.  She loves to interpret and has grown to be a leader with the Good News Club as well as many of our outside ministry endeavors.  She serves as a teacher, a prayer partner, a lesson grader, a cook, an interior decorator, and much, much more.  She works hard and is there whenever…and wherever we need her.  We thank God for Bertha Libindo.

Love,

Ken & Karen
